SJC & WYK Integrated Interview Challenge 2025

St. Joseph's College (SJC)

2025-2026 Integrated Assessment Practice

Part 1: Reading Aloud and Comprehension

First, please read the following passage aloud. Then, answer the questions that follow.
St. Joseph's College was founded in 1875. Its motto is "Labore et Virtute," which means "Labour and Virtue." The school's historic North Block and West Block are declared monuments in Hong Kong. For 150 years, SJC has been a place where "Josephians" build strong friendships, often called the "Green and White" brotherhood. The school encourages students not just to be good at books, but to develop in sports, music, and serving the community. Many famous alumni, like the singer Alfred Hui and the artist Jan Lamb, often come back to share their experiences with students.

Follow-up Questions:

1. The motto is "Labour and Virtue". You are on the school football team and also have a lot of math homework. How would you show "Labour and Virtue" in this situation?

2. The passage mentions a "Green and White" brotherhood and that famous alumni come back to school. Why do you think this brotherhood is so important for SJC?

Part 2: Creative Expression & School Life (中文創意與校園生活)

Part 3: Picture Storytelling & Teamwork

Look at the picture below and tell a short story about it in about 1.5 minutes. After your story, explain how this relates to your own experience.
🏃‍♂️ baton 🏃‍♂️🏆

We know from your file that you were a 4x100m relay champion in primary school. How is teamwork in a relay race similar to being a good student at SJC?

Part 4: Mathematical and Logical Thinking

Wah Yan College, Kowloon (WYK)

2025-2026 Integrated Assessment Practice

Part 1: Self-Introduction & Personal Reflection

Please introduce yourself in about 1 minute. Tell us about one hobby you are passionate about.

Your record shows you enjoy many activities like playing the piano, golf, and Chinese chess. Choose one. How has this hobby taught you to be a "Man for and with others," which is the spirit of Wah Yan College?

Part 2: Scenario Analysis & School Spirit (中文情景分析與華仁精神)

Part 3: Logical Puzzle & Creative Thinking

Let's solve a puzzle.
Imagine you have a 3x3 grid.
[_][_][_]
[_][X][_]
[_][_][_]
A Chinese chess 'Horse' (馬) is on the square marked 'X'. Can you move the horse to every other square exactly once, without visiting the same square twice? You don't need to give the full path, just explain your first few steps and how you would think about this problem.

Part 4: Balancing Life & Future Plans

Please look at the drawing of the unbalanced seesaw.
Academics
(Math Olympiad)
Football
Piano
Golf

This seesaw shows that sometimes, our hobbies and schoolwork can be unbalanced. You have won many awards in both. At Wah Yan, a school that values all-round development, how would you try to keep your life balanced? What would you do if you feel too much pressure from one side?

St. Joseph's College - Interview Analysis

1. Reading Aloud and Comprehension

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

1. How to show "Labour and Virtue": "To show 'Labour', I would work hard in both things. I would make a schedule. For example, after football practice, I will rest for a short while and then focus on my math homework. I will not make excuses. To show 'Virtue', it means doing the right thing. I would not give up on my team, and I would not give up on my studies. I would be responsible to my teammates and also to myself. It is about balancing my duties and trying my best in everything."

2. Why brotherhood is important: "I think the 'Green and White' brotherhood is very important because it means we are like a big family. In a family, older brothers help the younger ones. When famous alumni come back, they are like successful older brothers who show us what is possible and give us advice. This makes students feel proud of the school and want to work hard. This brotherhood also means that even after we graduate, we still have a strong connection and can help each other. It makes SJC a very special and supportive place."

2. Creative Expression & School Life (中文創意與校園生活)

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

3. Picture Storytelling & Teamwork

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

"This picture shows the story of a relay race. The first runner is running very fast, holding a baton. His job is to run his best and then pass the baton smoothly to his teammate. The second runner is ready, waiting for the perfect moment to receive the baton and continue the race. The final picture shows a trophy, which means their teamwork led to victory. The most important part is not just running fast, but passing the baton perfectly. If they drop the baton, they will lose, even if they are all fast runners.

This is very similar to my experience winning the 4x100m relay. And I think being a good student at SJC is like being in a relay team. My primary school teachers passed the 'baton' of knowledge to me. If I join SJC, my new teachers and older schoolmates (the Josephians) will pass their knowledge and the 'Green and White' spirit to me. My job is to learn well and then, in the future, pass this baton to the younger students. We all have to work together and support each other to make the whole school successful, just like winning a race together."

4. Mathematical and Logical Thinking

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

Wah Yan College, Kowloon - Interview Analysis

1. Self-Introduction & Personal Reflection

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

"Good morning, teachers. My name is [Your Name]. I am a cheerful and curious student. In my primary school, I was a Math Ambassador and a member of the football team. I have many hobbies, but the one I am most passionate about is playing football. To me, football is not just about scoring goals. It has taught me how to be a 'Man for and with others.' In a game, I cannot win alone. I must pass the ball, trust my teammates, and communicate with them. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. When we lose, we don't blame each other; instead, we cheer each other up and train harder together. This is being 'with others.' Also, when a new or younger player joins the team, I try to teach them what I know and make them feel welcome. This is being 'for others.' I believe this spirit of teamwork and support is very important, and I hope to bring this spirit to Wah Yan College."

2. Scenario Analysis & School Spirit (中文情景分析與華仁精神)

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

3. Logical Puzzle & Creative Thinking

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

"This is an interesting puzzle. First, I need to remember how a Chinese chess 'Horse' moves. It moves in an 'L' shape: one step straight and then one step diagonally. From the center 'X', the horse can move to all 8 squares around the edge of a bigger 5x5 square. But on this 3x3 grid, it can't move anywhere, because there are no squares at the end of the 'L' shape.

Ah, I think I misunderstood the picture. Let's assume the 'X' is a starting point in a larger board, but we only care about the 3x3 grid. Let's place 'X' in the corner instead. For example, if 'X' is at the top-left, it can move to two squares inside the grid. My strategy would be to move to the square that has fewer next moves available. This is a common strategy in puzzles like this, called Warnsdorff's rule. I would try to visit the corner squares early, as they are the hardest to reach. I would draw out the grid and use arrows to track my path, and if I get stuck, I would backtrack and try a different path. It requires careful and systematic thinking."

4. Balancing Life & Future Plans

Why this is asked:

Model Answer Guide:

"This picture is very true for me sometimes. I love Math Olympiad, but I also love playing football and piano. At Wah Yan, I know I will have more schoolwork, but I don't want to give up my hobbies because they make me a more complete person.

To keep the seesaw balanced, my plan is to use a timetable. I will set specific times for homework, for football practice, and for piano practice. For example, I will finish my homework first after school, so I can enjoy my hobbies without worrying. I also need to be smart. When I have a big exam coming, maybe I will spend a little less time on hobbies that week. But after the exam, I can play more.

If I feel too much pressure from one side, like from academics, I won't just keep quiet. I think it is important to talk to someone. I would talk to my parents, my teachers, or my new friends at Wah Yan. I might also go play football to relax my mind. I believe that being a good student is not just about getting high scores, but also about being happy and healthy."
